BLOG POST: DIY Pedicure Step by step!

Who doesn’t love taking time for themselves, relaxing and having your feet pampered with a professional pedicure. As much as I love being spoiled at the salon, it’s not always easy to get away for that hour or two and treat myself. To save both time and money, I like to stock up on some essentials to have on hand so I can spruce up my toes for a last minute date night or trip to the beach. Here is what you need to have in your arsenal to keep your feet in tip top shape!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

Minimally you need polish remover, an orange stick, file, clippers, base coat, top coat, polish, pumice and moisturizer. For extra pampering, a foot scrub and cuticle clippers are wonderful additions. I prefer to shop at a beauty supply store because it is more affordable, and they have lots of options for tools.

Step 2: Prep and Soak

Remove any polish on your toes and fill a basin or bathtub with warm soapy water. Soak your feet for 5-10 minutes. The warm temp will relax you and the water will soften callouses and cuticles.

Step 3: Exfoliate

Remove your feet for the warm water. Dry gently and gently exfoliate using the pumice on your heels and any rough spots. If you want, apply a foot scrub and massage gently for a few minutes.

Step 4: Trim and File

Dry your feet and trim your nails straight across to avoid ingrown nails. File them smooth using a nail file. Push back cuticles using the orange stick. If you want, carefully trim excess cuticle around the nails.

Step 5: Polish and Primp

Start with a base coat. This will smooth out any ridges and also prevent vibrant colored polishes from staining your nails. Once dry, apply two coats of the color polish of your choice. I LOVE going bold on my toes, especially in summer months. Apply a quick dry topcoat and dry for at least 10 minutes but ideally up to 30 minutes.

Step 6: Hydrate and Maintain

Once your polish is dry, you need to moisturize! Apply your favorite moisturizer, paying attention to the areas that take the most abuse (heels and toes for me!) BREVENA’s Intensive Foot & Heel Repair works overnight to soften your feet, without fragrances and dyes! Just apply every few days to maintain those soft smooth feet all summer long!
